SeniorHangouts Member Terms

SeniorHangouts is owned and operated by The Federation of New Zealand SeniorNet Societies Inc. (SeniorNet). These are the terms (“Terms”) which apply when you agree to become a SeniorHangouts Member and you create an account with SeniorHangouts (“us” / “we” / “our”) to support the development of our educational content.

By signing up to become a SeniorHangouts Member, you accept and agree to be bound by these Terms.

Changes to these Terms

We may change these Terms at any time, effective upon publishing these Terms on this page, so we encourage you to check this page from time to time.  By continuing to use your SeniorHangouts member’s account after that notification, you agree to be bound by the Terms as amended.

Payments and Contributions

By becoming a SeniorHangouts Member you can use a payment card, like a credit card, to make payments to us.  Once processed, all payments are unconditional and non-refundable.  

Your card transactions

Your payment card transactions will be securely processed by Stripe Inc, a third party payment processor, and are subject to Stripe’s Terms of Service (available at  Stripe maintains procedures to protect information stored on their servers, as outlined in Stripe’s own privacy policy at  We do not store your payment card details.

Stripe alone is responsible for processing your payment card transactions.  To the extent legally possible, we exclude all liability for, and assume no responsibility for, such transactions.


Any Contributions that you kindly make to us are koha.  They will not be tax deductible.  

Your information

It is your responsibility to:

  • make sure all information you provide to us is complete, accurate and current when you register to become a SeniorHangouts Member (including maintaining and updating that information to ensure it remains accurate and
  • Safeguard your login and password details.  You agree not to share your password with anyone else.

We will take reasonable steps to keep your account secure and protect it from unauthorised access.  However, if someone else uses your SeniorHangouts Member account, we will not be liable in any circumstances for any loss or damage incurred.  You agree that both we and Stripe are entitled to rely on the authenticity and authority of your username, password and session-specific codes generated by your hardware device to process your Contributions or action requests made through your SeniorHangouts Member account.  

You agree to let us know immediately if you suspect or become aware of unauthorised access to your SeniorHangouts Member account.

Account cancellation

You can request the cancellation of your SeniorHangouts Member account at any time by emailing us at from the email address associated with your SeniorHangouts Member account.  Please use the subject line “Account Cancellation”.  It may take 5-10 working days for your request to be actioned. 

If you are a member of a learning centre please note that cancelling your Seniorhangouts Members Account will not affect your membership of your learning centre, it will only turn off your ability to access the SeniorHangouts website and applications. 

We may suspend or cancel your SeniorHangouts Member account (including any aliases) without notice at any time at our sole discretion.  If we suspend or cancel your SeniorHangouts Member account, you must not create another one without our prior approval. 

If your SeniorHangouts Member account is cancelled or deleted, you will not be able to access the account.  In addition, your data may be deleted immediately.  Your data cannot be recovered once deleted and we are not liable for any loss or damage as a result of the cancellation of your account.

Intellectual Property

We own (or have obtained the rights to use) all data and all intellectual property rights existing in or created through The SeniorHangouts application and your SeniorHangouts Member account, including all underlying software code, and any improvements, enhancements, modifications or adaptations of it.

Subject to these Terms, we grant you a limited licence to access your SeniorHangouts Member account.  You agree not to make use of any data mining, robots or similar data gathering or extraction methods or to copy material from or otherwise make use of materials on the SeniorHangouts application other than for its intended purpose.


Your use of The SeniorHangouts application is at your sole risk.    

You agree that, to the maximum extent permitted by law, our total aggregate liability to you will not exceed the sum of NZ$50, or two times your most recent Contribution amount, whichever is the lesser, in any circumstances.  

Nothing in these terms restricts any rights that you may have under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993.

Submitted Content and Comments 

Our right: We retain the right and discretion (but not the obligation) to edit, delete, reject or remove any material, text or media which you post in the SeniorHangouts website or application.

Your obligation: You agree to take full responsibility for any material, text or media posted by you onto the SeniorHangouts website or application and you will fully indemnify and hold us (and our related entities) not liable for any claims, costs, or loss arising from your actions. 


These Terms are governed by New Zealand law.  You submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the New Zealand courts for any matter or dispute arising in relation to these Terms. 

These Terms and our Privacy Policy constitute our entire agreement and supersede all prior agreements, arrangements, understandings and representations (whether oral or written) given by or made between us and you, in relation to your use of SeniorHangouts Website, or applications, or your SeniorHangouts Member account.

If any provision of these Terms is declared invalid, unenforceable or in conflict with law, that provision is restricted or deleted to the minimum extent, so that these Terms otherwise remain in full effect.

If we do not exercise or enforce any right available to us under these Terms, it does not constitute a waiver of those rights.

The headings used throughout these Terms are provided for convenience and do not affect the meaning of these Terms.


Within these Terms, the following definitions apply:

  1. “Contribution” and “Contributions” means the one-time and/or monthly or annual payments that you make to us;
  2. “SeniorHangouts Member account” means an account that you create, so as to make contributions to us.
  3. “User”, “you” and “your” means anyone who creates a SeniorHangouts Member account;
  4. “We”, “us” and “our” means SeniorHangouts, together with any directors, agents or employees of The Federation of New Zealand SeniorNet Societies Inc., and any associated entities of The Federation of New Zealand SeniorNet Societies Inc.


SeniorHangouts Privacy Policy 

SeniorHangouts values your privacy.  This Privacy Policy explains what information SeniorHangouts, our related entities? and any assignees (collectively SeniorHangouts, “we” “us” or “our”) collect from you and how we use, disclose and protect that information.  It also explains your options around our use of your personal information and how you can access and update it. 

What does this privacy policy cover?

This Privacy Policy applies to your use of The SeniorHangouts website and applications and any information that you download or purchase from us (collectively, “Services”).  

By using any of our Services, you consent to the use of your information in the manner set out in this Privacy Policy.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time and if we do, you will find any updates here.  

What Information do we collect?

SeniorHangouts collects information to make our website and application operate more effectively.  Personal information (being information that is capable of identifying you) is collected directly from you and other information is collected when you interact with our Services.  

Personal Information

Personal information about you is collected by SeniorHangouts and may be used to identify or contact you.  This information may be collected when you sign up to become a SeniorHangouts Member or when you contact us or interact with our Services.  This may include your name, email address, telephone number, other means of contacting you, and mailing/delivery addresses.  If you do not supply us with that personal information, then we may be unable to contact you or provide you with our Services effectively.


We use cookies to store non-personally identifiable information about use of the SeniorHangouts website and applications, to promote our SeniorHangouts Membership program and to give you the best possible experience. The information collected is anonymous and does not personally identify you.

SeniorHangouts does not store your payment card details 

We do not collect or store payment information you provide (except for your name and contact details).  If you purchase learning material from us or make SeniorHangouts Member donations using your payment card information, payments will be processed by the specialised payment card payment service Stripe Inc / PayPal Pte. How we use your personal information 

We may contact you using your address, email, telephone number and any other means of contact you have provided.

Your information will be used to deliver the Services you have requested

Your information may be used to contact you about your use of our Services and new Services and content that may be of interest to you. You will be able to opt-out of receiving messages which are not necessary to deliver Services you have requested.

By joining a SeniorHangouts virtual meeting you consent to the recording of the session which will be made available in the SeniorHangouts Library.  The recordings can be accessed by SeniorHangouts members for educational purposes.

We may be required by law to disclose your personal information.  We may also disclose information about you if we determine that disclosure is reasonably necessary to exercise our legal rights or defend ourselves against any third-party claims or allegations.  

Accessing and correcting your personal information

It is your responsibility to ensure that the personal information you provide to us is accurate, complete and up-to-date.  You may request access to the personal information we hold about you, or request that we update or correct any personal information we hold about you, by sending us your request in writing.  If for some reason we cannot, or do not, action your request, you have the right to ask us to record, alongside your personal information, the fact that your request for correction has been made.
